Project Overview

In this project we had the pleasure of spotlighting life of the remarkable Freda Diesing, a pioneering Haida artist from Prince Rupert, BC. Starting her wood carving journey at 42, Freda played a pivotal role in the resurgence of Northwest Coast art in the 1960s. Beyond her artistry, she was a revered mentor, with her teachings influencing today's acclaimed First Nations artists. Recognized with accolades like an honorary diploma from Coast Mountain College and a National Aboriginal Achievement Award, our video celebrates Freda's enduring legacy and impact on First Nations art and culture.
